Before Turning On The Sander
1. Always wear safety glasses when operating any machinery. 2. Check disc / belt for tears, breaks, and to make sure the sandpaper isn’t worn out or full of pitch. Check disc to make sure it is securely adhered to metal disc. 3. Do not use sander for gross shaping. Do that on band saw or lathe. Use sander for surface finishing only. Operating Combination Sander 1. Only sand stock that is large enough to be held securely with both hands. 2. When turning on sander, check belt for alignment with drive wheels. Belt should run parallel to sides of the sander, if not, use the alignment knobs on the side of the belt sander to bring it back in line. If you can’t align the belt or have questions contact your instructor. 3. Keep fingers and hands away from sandpaper at all times. 4. When using the disc sander, only sand on the side of the disc that is rotating into the table. Usually the left side of the disc. 5. When sanding on the belt sander sand along flat area of belt for sanding along flat surfaces. Use the round end of the belt for sanding curves. 6. Only sand stock large enough to be safely held in hands. If stock is too small or thin, it will cause the fingers to be dangerously close to the abrasive belt. |
